Mid-Continent DIstrict

primary focus area map

Through detailed and regional studies from the outcrop and subsurface covering four states Woolsey redefined the Mississippian.

In 2003 we initiated slick water hydraulic fracturing in the Mississippian and recognized the substantial horizontal drilling potential of the reservoir. Neither horizontal drilling nor hydraulic fracture treatments are new; however, the ability developed during the source rock plays to do multiple stage treatments in a horizontal well created a great potential in the tight, low permeability Mississippian reservoir. As a result of our studies and activity we acquired a large acreage position in the Mississippian play in Kansas and, later, through divestment of a portion of the acreage, enticed a major oil company to return to Kansas.

We currently control over 50,000 acres primarily held by production in the Mid-Continent District and have identified sufficient horizontal and vertical proved development locations to continue an active drilling program. We will continue to acquire additional leases in the Mid-Continent District for future growth.
